Lime Rendering

JB Conservation have great experience and skill on all aspects of lime rendering projects.

External lime render is a protective coating applied to the exterior surfaces of old, traditional buildings built in stone, brick and cob. It offers a number of advantages over cement based mixes for rendering.

Advantages

Benefits of Lime Rendering

Lime is softer and more flexible than cement, allowing the building to ‘breath’, as well as accommodating subtle movement, significantly reducing the risk of cracking.

By allowing the building to breath, moisture within the walls can evaporate, instead of becoming trapped, which can lead to a variety of damp problems and structural damage.

Aesthetically, lime rendering is the best material to render with. Largely due to the increased permeability of renders using hydrated lime, there is a reduced risk of unsightly efflorescence – a powdery deposit of water-soluble salts that can appear on the surface of the building.

Appearance and protection

Effects of Lime Rendering

External renders can have multiple effects, which can attain both appearance and what’s best for the building, they are usually painted and protected with limewashes or breathable silicate paints.

We pride ourselves in revitalising and maintaining the original style of a building, and can provide a variety of applications and finishes by our proficient team.
